[There's absolutely no sense, through the bond or otherwise, that Jamie's anything but blissfully unaware of the way he's siphoning off of Max, or ever was doing it to anyone else. It's as natural as breathing, a fully subconscious act of power. More than anything else emotionally, he's simply radiating gratitude, angled in his seat to watch Max as they drive, like there's nothing he'd rather look at in the world.
